“Gunpowder”(or Molaha Podi) is the name most commonly used by South Indian food fans. It’s a dry condiment made from roasted dal (lentils), sesame seeds, chilies, cumin, coriander, and other spices.
The famous South Indian chutney is spicy hot-hence the name! It is the dry red chilies that create the heat, so this chutney is not for the faint of heart. While it is traditionally enjoyed with idlis (steamed South Indian rice cakes), dosas (crispy savoury South Indian rice pancakes) or uttampams (savoury rice and lentils pancakes) and sambar, you can actually eat it with anything.
